‘Smart Classroom among the Woods’- IEEE SIGHT of Viswajyothi College of Engineering and Technology (VJCET)

Viswajyothi College of Engineering and Technology is one of the top self-financing educational institutions in Kerala which instils the students with the ethics to help the society. The educational institution situated at Vazhakulam, Muvattupuzha recently made headlines for its approach towards social commitment.
The school and college students of the Kunjippara tribal settlement in the Kuttampuzha forest range, Kothanamagalam, had not enough basic equipment and power supply to access the online classes during lockdown. The student members of IEEE SIGHT(Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) VJCET came to know about this plight in the tribal area, submitted a project proposal titled “Smart Classroom among the Woods” to IEEE SIGHT.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is the world's largest technical professional organization which aims at using technology for the betterment of  humanity, and SIGHT  is an affinity group of the IEEE.
The project proposal was approved and received a fund to complete the project worth Rs. 3,40,000.

In this project, student members under the guidance of  Professor Anish M Jose, Department of  Electronics and Communication and student organizers, Albin Paul and Ananthakrishnan S Nath,
set up a rooftop solar power plant at the only Government School in the locality and donated laptops and projectors, thereby setting up a smart classroom. The complete project work was entirely done by the student members of  IEEE SIGHT under the supervision of technical staff of VJCET.
Today, the students of the tribal community can access the online classes as well as the pre-recorded video and audio lectures with the help of the 2kW solar power plant supported smart class room installed by the SIGHT team of VJCET.
